Careers Curriculum

Alongside our thematic curriculum, the Tri-School Federation has developed a Careers Curriculum with clear objectives:

  • Develop Ambition: Inspire children to aspire towards future learning and careers.
  • Understanding Local Industries: Ensure all children leave our primary schools with a good understanding of local industries across North Norfolk.
  • Preparation for Modern Life: Equip children with skills and knowledge for modern life.
  • Responsible Citizenship: Foster responsible, active citizenship.
  • Work-Based Skills: Develop practical work-based skills underpinned by our school values and learning characteristics.
  • Communication and Audience Skills: Offer opportunities to communicate effectively and explore skills related to different audience levels.

Implementation Stages

  1. Class-Based Termly Assemblies: Introduce career concepts and local industry insights through regular assemblies.
  2. Termly Enrichment Days: Special days dedicated to exploring various careers and skill sets.
  3. Visits and Business Links: Facilitate real-world learning through visits and partnerships with parents, local businesses, and community members.
  4. Virtual Careers Workshops: Implement virtual workshops to expose children to various professions and industry experts, expanding their understanding beyond local opportunities.
  5. Career-Related Learning Evaluation: Use the Career Related Learning Pupil Evaluation Form to assess and reflect on pupils' engagement, learning outcomes and development throughout the curriculum.

Annual Framework

  • Autumn: Introduce local industries and their relevance to our rural context.
  • Spring: Focus on learning new skills and applying them in practical contexts.
  • Summer: Present new learning and ideas, creating real audiences for their work.

Industry Focus Per Class

  • Nursery: Introduction to Construction.
  • Reception: "People Who Help Us," focusing on Emergency Services and Construction.
  • Year 1: Transport and Storage, highlighting the importance of logistics.
  • Year 2: Engineering, fostering future problem solvers.
  • Year 3: Retail and Marketing, including product design, selling, and advertising.
  • Year 4: Human Health, Sports Industry, and Social Services, focusing on careers such as Doctors and Social Workers.
  • Year 5: Media, Social Influencers, and Journalism.
  • Year 6: Finance, covering budgeting, spending decisions, mortgage rates, and house prices.

Our Schools

Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises fifteen Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
