Reading

At Foulsham Primary School we want all our pupils to be enthusiastic about books and reading.

In EYFS and KS1 the teachers share picture books and poems daily.

We start teaching phonics from their very first day in Reception, through the Read, Write Inc: a vigorous phonics programme. There is a daily phonic lesson and regular assessments to make sure the scheme is tailored to the child’s needs and that effective progress is made. Books matching the phonemes taught and practised at school are sent home to further develop fluency and enjoyment.
One the phonics scheme has been completed, children will continue to have daily reading lessons, through studying an engaging text in class. We use Pathways to Read, which provides the progressive development of reading skills through all year groups to the end of KS2 and follows a mastery approach. The texts are chosen from different types and genres and represent a broad and diverse range of characters.

Additionally, each day children will enjoy hearing an adult read a novel, often chosen by the class, furthering their love of reading.

Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises fifteen Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
